The West Central Florida Medical Reserve Corps (WCFMRC) is an adjunct to the Health Departments in the following seven counties: Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sumter. Each community is unique, so the process of establishing its MRC unit will differ by county. The WCFMRC is currently developing partnerships with local government agencies, not-for profit organizations, hospitals and other healthcare providers, and even local businesses to develop a strong community public health infrastructure. Our volunteers are also participating in community emergency preparedness events, such as shelter exercises, vaccination clinics, mass casualty incidents and other emergency scenarios, as well as training with local emergency response partners in team building activities. These efforts fully support the priorities of the Surgeon General in promoting disease prevention, improving health literacy, eliminating health disparities, enhancing public health preparedness and assisting local hospitals and health departments with surge personnel. The following flowchart outlines what actions you take to apply as a volunteer and the screening process we employ to ensure volunteers are qualified to participate. If you are comfortable with this process, which is required to maintain the high standards of the organization while protecting you as a volunteer, please click on the "GET STARTED" button following the flowchart.
